Zhenya belongs to a family of four – mother, father and a sister. The family sustains itself from only two pensions one from Zhenya and the other from his father who is an invalid. Zhenya's mother cannot work as she has to take care of her son and husband. The grandparents also try to help support the family.
Zhenya has cerebral palsy can hardly walk and is wheelchair bound. Even from a young age, the boy couldn’t be among children as no kindergarten provided him with the special conditions he needs. His grandfather, veteran of the Second World War, brought him to Gan Chamah. Zhenya was accepted into the first grade of the school. At Gan Chamah he was given an individualized program planned for his development. He attended the educational programs and studied with all children in classes. He was given individual lessons on Math and Russian, Art-therapy, swimming lessons at the pool on premises and was assigned a special nurse to assist him with walking and personal hygiene. The family had no car Zhenya’s parents were happy with the transportation, provided by the school bus throughout the entire scholastic year.. Zhenya took an active part in all school activities, participating in Jewish holidays, concerts, drawing competitions etc. After finishing Gan Chamah school, CHAMAH found a donor who is now paying for Zhenya’s study in a private school “Mummy Trol”. On Sundays Zhenya comes to CHAMAH Sunday Family school. He is also very talented in drawing.
